In a time when punk was already burning out and the ‘New Wave’ rejuvenated old guard music with more energy; Fischer-Z appeared sporting intelligent, melodic, quirky pop alongside Talking Heads, XTC and the Police. This album showcases John Watts and Stephen Skolnik working together at their best, choppy back beat telecaster complementing signature keyboard riffs. `Watts’ lyrics dealt with international issues, as well as people stories. Despite Mike Howlett’s light-weight production this album was an original first foray on to the music scene. It sacrificed some of the band’s live raw power in favour of a unique keyboard dominated sound. Just the right side of twee.
